VinFast’s, Vietnam’s leading electric vehicle manufacturer, has made a bold entry into the Indian market with the launch of its premium electric SUVs, the VF6 and VF7, on September 6, 2025. This debut marks a significant milestone for the company, aligning with India’s push toward sustainable mobility and the growing demand for eco-friendly vehicles.

With competitive pricing, advanced technology, and a robust ecosystem plan, VinFast is poised to challenge established players like Tata Motors, Mahindra, and Hyundai in the Indian EV landscape. Here’s a detailed look at the VF6 and VF7, their specifications, features, and what makes them stand out in India’s burgeoning electric vehicle market.

VinFast's VF6: Compact, Stylish, and Affordable

The VinFast’s VF6 is a compact electric SUV designed to cater to urban commuters and families seeking a blend of style, efficiency, and practicality. Priced starting at ₹16.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the VF6 is available in three variants: Earth, Wind, and Wind Infinity, with the top-end model priced at ₹18.29 lakh. Its competitive pricing positions it against rivals like the Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE 6, and Hyundai Creta Electric.

Specifications and Performance

The VF6 is powered by a 59.6 kWh battery pack paired with a front-wheel-drive (FWD) single electric motor. The Earth variant delivers 174 bhp (130 kW) and 250 Nm of torque, while the Wind and Wind Infinity trims offer 201 bhp (150 kW) and 310 Nm. The SUV boasts an ARAI-certified range of up to 468 km for the Earth variant and 463 km for the Wind variants, making it suitable for both city drives and longer journeys. It accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in approximately 8.89 seconds and supports fast charging, reaching 10% to 70% in just 25 minutes.

Design and Features

The VF6’s design, inspired by the philosophy “The Duality in Nature,” features sleek LED DRLs, vertically stacked triangular projector headlights, and a closed-off grille, giving it a futuristic yet practical aesthetic. The side profile includes 18-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and a coupe-like sloping roofline, while the rear sports a connected LED taillight bar and an integrated spoiler.

Inside, the VF6 offers a minimalist, tech-focused cabin with two interior themes: an all-black scheme for the Earth variant and a dual-tone Mocha Brown and black for the Wind trims. Key features include a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a colored head-up display (HUD), dual-zone climate control, ventilated front seats, and an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.

Safety is prioritized with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), including adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and forward collision warning, along with seven airbags and a 360-degree camera. The VF6 also offers 423 liters of boot space, expandable by folding the rear seats, making it practical for daily use.

The VF7, a larger and sportier mid-size SUV, is designed under the philosophy “The Universe is Asymmetrical.” Starting at ₹20.89 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Earth variant and going up to ₹25.49 lakh for the top-end Sky Infinity, the VF7 competes with models like the Mahindra XEV 9e and Tata Harrier EV. It is available in five variants: Earth, Wind, Wind Infinity, Sky, and Sky Infinity, with both FWD and all-wheel-drive (AWD) options.

Specifications and Performance

The VF7 offers two battery options: a 59.6 kWh pack for the Earth variant and a 70.8 kWh pack for the Wind and Sky variants. The Earth variant produces 130 kW (174 bhp) and 250 Nm of torque, while the Wind variant ups the ante with 150 kW (201 bhp) and 310 Nm. The Sky variant, with its dual-motor AWD setup, delivers an impressive 260 kW (348 bhp) and 500 Nm, achieving 0-100 kmph in just 5.8 seconds. The ARAI-certified range varies from 438 km for the Earth variant to 532 km for the Wind variant, ensuring versatility for diverse driving needs.

Design and Features

The VF7’s aggressive design includes flush door handles, 19-inch alloy wheels, split LED headlights, and a wraparound LED taillight bar. The cabin exudes premium vibes with vegan leather upholstery, a dual-tone Mocha Brown and black theme (all-black for the Earth variant), and a panoramic glass roof in the Infinity trims.

It features a larger 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system in higher trims, over-the-air (OTA) updates, a colored HUD, and advanced safety features like Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags, and a 360-degree camera. Additional conveniences include heated ORVMs with memory, 90W USB-C fast charging ports, and multiple drive modes (Eco, Normal, Sport).

The SUVs are locally assembled at the company’s Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu facility, with an initial production capacity of 50,000 units, expandable to 150,000 units in the second phase. The company has partnered with RoadGrid, myTVS, and Global Assure to establish a nationwide charging and after-sales network, aiming for 15,000 charging stations and 35 dealerships across 27 cities by the end of 2025.
