What is the SOAR Programme?

SOAR, which stands for Skilling for Opportunities, Access and Relevance, is a national-level initiative focused on equipping students with practical, hands-on knowledge in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, and data literacy. The programme is not just about theoretical understanding—it’s about preparing young minds to thrive in a digital-first world.

Through this initiative, students in Classes 6 to 12 will gain early exposure to:

• Basics of Artificial Intelligence

• Machine Learning algorithms

• Data analytics and interpretation

• Design thinking and problem-solving

• Coding, automation, and robotics

This will be delivered via interactive digital modules, practical workshops, and real-world project-based learning.

According to NASSCOM, by 2027 India will need over 10 million professionals trained in AI and related technologies. Yet our current education system is not producing the volume or quality of tech-savvy students required. A unique aspect of SOAR is its inclusivity. The programme aims to reach government schools, rural classrooms, and economically weaker sections, giving every child, regardless of their background, a chance to learn the language of the future—technology.

Curriculum Design

SOAR follows a modular structure, starting with simple AI concepts for middle schoolers (Classes 6–8) and progressively introducing advanced topics like neural networks, data science, and natural language processing in higher classes (9–12). It will be aligned with NEP 2020 and designed in collaboration with AICTE, NCERT, and industry experts.

Hands-on Learning Approach

No boring lectures! SOAR uses gamified learning, real-world case studies, AI labs, and project-based challenges to teach students how to apply AI concepts practically.

Digital Access and Open Resources

• All SOAR content will be hosted on a centralized digital portal.

• Multilingual support to ensure accessibility in regional languages.

• Zero-cost learning – completely free for students and schools.

Teacher Training

A nationwide training drive will also upskill teachers to deliver AI content confidently. Specialized training modules, online certifications, and mentoring from tech partners will support this.

One of the biggest challenges is lack of infrastructure in rural and remote schools. The government has committed to:

• Establishing AI learning labs in government schools

Shortage of AI-Trained Teachers

To tackle this, SOAR will run a “Train the Trainer” campaign in collaboration with top Indian universities and tech companies.
